I spent a morning at the Royal Mint in Wales today as it began production of the Royal Wedding commemorative coin featuring of course William and Catherine. The skills of master toolmaker Richard Hughes are the final step in the long process from artists conception to the finished article. With the aid of hand made tools and 30 years of experience he delicately fine tunes the impression of the final die that will be used to strike the coins as they go into production. There is no room for error. One slip of an over sensitive hammer strike as he fashions Catherine's smile, and its back to the drawing board. Literally.
